What We Are Doing

HEALTH & HEALING PROGRAM

We created the Health and Healing program to promote healthy snacks fruits and vegetables. We host Haile Health days and Beets, Blueberries and Brains sessions where 4th thru 8th grade students learn about the benefits of eating right on the brain and body. We also learn about the various urban farms in the area that are supplying healthy food options in our community.

CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM

We created the Cultural Exchange Program that allows 4th thru 8th grade students we work with and incarcerated individuals we support to exchange artwork, poetry and letters to encourage and inspire. This program has prompted honest conversations about the prison pipeline, injustice within the justice system, and navigating a system that isn’t necessarily designed for everyone’s benefit. We have also participated annually in the Sisters in Success programming with the women of the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution, leading drum circles to make music that connects, encourages and lifts our spirits collectively.

COMMUNITY CARES PROGRAM

We created the Community Cares Program to provide youth of all ages opportunities to give back to the communities in which they live. Students have expressed a desire to be a part of the solution to the problems facing their neighborhoods and have helped to organize beautification days, clearing trash and litter from the streets, sock and hat drives to distribute to the homeless and volunteer days at urban farms that provide healthy options to families in food deserts, just to name a few! We are committed to instilling a sense of empowerment through service.

READING RAINBOW PROGRAM

We created the Reading Rainbow Program not only to improve reading comprehension, build vocabulary and develop critical thinking, but also to share literary works with characters and authors that reflect our students and their communities. 4th thru 7th graders and 7th thru 12th graders are provided free books and a supportive space to read on a weekly basis. Through this program we have learned about influential leaders of the community, critical movements that continue to shape our future, and of course added new “SAT” level words to our lexicon!

CAREER PROGRAM

We created career preparation and development programs both domestically and internationally for university level students, including a language learning curriculum, resume preparation, interview and internship assistance. To date we have advised over 200 students across Philadelphia, the country and globally on how to ensure a successful career and add value to any organization.
